Much has been written about Test and County cricket, but very little about Club cricket in our area.
There must be a wealth of information kept in albums, scrap books or tucked away in boxes, or stored long ago in the in the loft. We welcome contributions from all - not just from members! Talk about the project to friends, neighbours, relatives and various old timers in the pub! More memories of Clubs (listed above or unlisted) are still wanted—please use the contact page to tell us what you have or to obtain further information.
Please note that you do not have to be a member of our Society to take part and there is no obligation on you to join. But you may choose to do so! The project is open to all.
OBJECTIVE
The objective is to generate an informal group of persons who are willing to research, identify key moments and interesting personalities associated with the local Club of your choice.
In some Clubs, a history may have already been written, which will provide a ready-made mine of information.
However to start, it is suggested that the initial selection of Clubs be focused on those that were instrumental in the formation of the Stourbridge & District Cricket Society. These are (or were):
Amblecote CC
Lye CC
Mark & Moody CC
Oldswinford CC
Pedmore CC
Stuarts CC
Stourbridge CC
Stourbridge Social CC
Wollaston CC.
But we shall not exclude other Clubs in the area and you are encouraged to provide memories of any local Club that you may have represented or supported.
It is not our aim to research and record each Club’s history, but rather to gather anecdotes, highlights, memories and photographs associated with specific Clubs.
OUTCOME
The desired outcome of the project is to compile a composite record of cricket Clubs in the area for general and heritage interest and perhaps specific use by researchers at some future date.
EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
If the project appeals to you, please reply by email and include the name of the Club that interests you. This will enable a list to be made of persons and their specific focus. Thus if two or more members nominate the same Club, they may elect to share information.
CLOSING DATE
There is no deadline (if you will forgive the turn of phrase!), but the sooner we start, the greater the chance of success!
